PSLE January Camp Report

A 3 days 2 nights camp was organised for the P6s from the 6th to 8th of January 2011. The aim of the camp was to prepare them for their PSLE battle. All 68 of them survived the camp and they are now more united to face the challenge together. Hopefully, Madrasah Wak Tanjong will rise again after its stumble. InsyaAllah!

DAY ONE:

The camp was officially opened by our vice-principal, Ustaz Md Abd Halim at half past seven in the morning. The students were then introduced to Brain Gym where they learnt some physical movements like Cross Crawl, Brain Button, Hook Ups and many more, which help to stimulate the brain, making learning more effective. It was followed by English and Maths Study Skills workshops conducted by MERCU till late afternoon.

After all the studying, the students let loose and had lots of fun playing teambuilding games in the hall. A delicious dinner was served afterwards to restore their energy and to prepare them for the enlightening talk on ways of managing emotional and mental stress. The talk was delivered by an alumni, Ustazah Nurul 'Izzah followed by an Usrah session (group discussion) to consolidate what they have learnt for the day. Lights out was at 11pm and they tried hard to sleep as most of them were excitedly anticipating the programmes that were yet to come.

Mumtaz Binte Abdul Halim:

“I have learnt that you should not be only prepared physically but also mentally and spiritually for the PSLE.”

DAY TWO:

Their second day started at 4am with Qiyamullail (night prayers) conducted by Ustaz Hafizd. It was a first time experience for most students. After breakfast, they continued with another lively session of Brain Gym followed by Science Study Skills workshop.

As it was Friday, the boys went for Jumaat prayers at the mosque and returned to congregrate with the girls for another motivational talk by Ustaz Tarmizi Wahid. The climax of the camp came after Asar, which was the Tower Bomb! Together, the students built towers using cardboard boxes in their respective groups and had to knock the competing groups' towers down with water bombs. We hope that they will continue emulating the teamwork spirit they have gained as they strive in their studies to uphold the Madrasah’s good name.

After dinner, the students were rekindled with the past. Around 30 Alumni came down to share their experience of what it was like to study in MWTAI. They shared both sweet and painful memories and motivated the students to be proud of being an MWTAIan. The day ended with another Usrah session and they slept like babies when they hit the sack.

Putra Nur Haiqal:

“The camp is so good that I can't sleep at night.”

DAY THREE:

The third day started at 4am again for yet another spiritually engaging session of Qiyamullail led by Ustaz Tarmizi. After breakfast, they sat for a goal-setting and time management workshop.

The students were guided on setting realistic goals for 2011 and learnt how to maximise their time to fully prepare themselves for PSLE. Then, a parent-teacher conference was held after Zohor. Tears shed as students from previous years, together with their parents, shared their experiences on facing the PSLE challenges. The sharing session was indeed a fruitful one and everyone was grateful for it.

At half past five in the evening, everyone went home feeling more prepared to face the PSLE challenges, insyaAllah. Hopefully they will carry the same confidence they showed in the campthroughout the year till the last day o

Md Nur Salam:

“Organise for us more camps, pls!”

Nabilah Md Siddiq:

“I have learnt that we must have confi-dence and believe in ourselves, if you fail to prepare, you are preparing to fail.”

From the students’ feedback, it is undeniable that all of them enjoyed the camp and are anticipating for the next one. They feel that it is important to prepare themselves physically, mentally and spiritually to excel in PSLE.

On behalf of the organising committee, we would like to thank everyone, especially our sponsors and volunteers, who have contributed to the success of the camp. May the students of P6 2011 achieve success in their examination this year! Allahumma ameen!

We hope to revisit some of the things we have taught them in this camp in our future monthly Qiyam (Night Prayers) programmes.
